About Mike Parr

Maryland singer-songwriter Mike Parr is an independent musician and songwriter based in Harford County, Maryland. Fans can often find him performing at local venues throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania. His latest band performs mainly classic and modern rock covers, but Mike also encourages his bandmates to include a few country songs each night, recognizing the timeless quality of country songwriting.

Songwriting and Influences

Mike has written original rock, country, blues, and Christian music. After composing several songs on his own, he trained under renowned Nashville songwriters, including Pat & Pete Luboff and Marc Allen Barnette. Over the years, he has been invited to numerous songwriter showcases, with his music receiving international radio airplay and streaming exposure.

Some of Mike’s notable songs include:

“Writing from your heart and personal experience is essential for creating authentic songs. While imagination can enhance a track, the most impactful music comes from a strong story, memorable hooks, and genuine passion.”

Mike’s History

In the early 1980s, Mike began recording and collaborating with his friend Tim Miskimon. Through this partnership, he learned the fundamentals of songwriting, recording, and music production while recording four of Tim’s songs:

  • Angel

  • Indecision

  • Lyin’ Here

  • Comet

These songs received airplay on U.S. radio stations, leading to a distribution offer from Pierre Jaubert in France. The deal would have promoted the songs across seven European countries, but it ultimately fell through due to legal disagreements. Another opportunity in Los Angeles required Mike to perform in a pop style similar to George Michael, but he chose to stay true to his rock roots.

Recording at Miskimon’s studio was both educational and inspiring, but it was also time-consuming and expensive. Determined to take control of his creative process, Mike built his own home recording studio with Tim’s help. Balancing a full-time job and family life, he taught himself to play multiple instruments so he could write, perform, and record his own music. After completing initial recordings, he returned to Tim’s studio for additional guitars, vocal layers, and professional mixing before sending tracks for mastering.
